Purpose built and uncompromising

Gene Chaser is a 55.5 metre support and expedition vessel that blends commercial-grade capability with customisation for scientific, dive and adventure operations. Originally delivered in 2020 by Damen Yachting under the YS 5009 platform, she represents a new genre of vessel—equal parts explorer, support yacht and standalone platform. With a steel hull and a steel/aluminium superstructure, her rugged construction is engineered for endurance, safety and versatility. Her design balances the demands of long-range autonomy with comfort for up to eight guests in four cabins. With an approximate range of 5,000 nautical miles at an economical cruising speed of 10 knots, and a top speed close to 20 knots, Gene Chaser offers the speed, strength and seakeeping to access remote zones swiftly and reliably. She is also fully capable of independent operation or supporting a mothership, depending on mission profile. From scientific deployments to recreational cruising in off-grid locations, this vessel is built to operate far from the ordinary.

Robust architecture meets modular adventure deck space

The exterior of Gene Chaser is characterised by strong lines, a high freeboard, and an expansive aft deck designed for heavy-duty use. With a beam of 9.25 metres and a flexible deck load capacity, she provides approximately 225 square metres of open deck space—a serious asset for storing and deploying tenders, submarines, amphibious craft or other expedition equipment. The deck is supported by a high-capacity crane capable of lifting upwards of 11 tonnes, making deployment of mission-critical gear efficient and safe. There's also a generous main deck hangar that can be used as a workshop, dive centre, vehicle bay or secure storage area. The layout integrates adventure-forward features such as a dive station with equipment store, decompression chamber (in some configurations), and a beach-style swim platform for water access. Clean foredeck lines, a sundeck with outdoor seating, and protected walkways ensure there is ample space for guests to enjoy the outdoors without compromising the vessel’s operational capabilities. Everything about the exterior is designed to support serious activity at sea, with enough adaptability to suit both leisure and logistical roles.

Interior design

Functionality meets comfort

Inside, Gene Chaser offers a practical and welcoming interior that blends utilitarian function with a clean, modern aesthetic. Accommodation is typically arranged for eight guests across four cabins, including a full-beam owner’s suite and three guest suites. The interior configuration supports extended stays at sea, with a crew capacity of at least seven, plus space for additional staff such as dive instructors, scientists or guides. The layout includes multifunctional interior areas that can serve as laboratories, research hubs, media centres or lounges, depending on mission requirements. In some arrangements, the main salon doubles as a technical space with stainless-steel worktops, rugged flooring, and flexible furniture for meetings or debriefs. Large windows allow natural light and ocean views throughout, maintaining a sense of openness. Finishes prioritise durability and practicality—marine-grade materials and simple, ergonomic design choices are featured throughout. The bridge and operations areas are equipped to commercial standards, reinforcing the vessel’s go-anywhere, do-anything ethos. While not conventionally lavish, the interior ensures comfort and efficiency on even the longest expeditions.
