Steel is a 55 metre full displacement motor yacht crafted for serious long range cruising and expedition use. Built by Pendennis Shipyard and delivered in 2009, she combines robust engineering with refined living spaces. Her ice class steel hull (approximately 3 cm thick) gives her the strength and stability to break through ice in polar waters — a distinctly rare capability in a yacht of this size. Her design ethos places durability, autonomy and versatility at the heart: large fuel and fresh water tanks enable extensive time at sea, while stabilisation systems and expedition grade build allow comfortable passage through challenging seas. Accommodating up to 12 guests in a classic, refined style, Steel presents a unique offering: the sophistication of a luxury yacht teamed with the resilience and capability of an explorer vessel. Whether traversing remote archipelagos or cruising in high latitudes, Steel is engineered to perform — not just for show.

Expedition architecture meets refined outdoor living
Externally, Steel projects a strong yet elegant presence. Her steel hull supports extended range and formidable strength; the superstructure is styled to blend traditional lines with purposeful expedition features. With a beam of about 9.6 metres and a draft in the region of 3.3–3.5 metres, she balances access to many anchorages with the robustness to manage heavier loads and deeper seas. Deck spaces are generous and thoughtfully arranged: the aft deck can support al fresco dining or lounge zones, while the main deck and sun deck give multiple vantage points for outdoor living and nature viewing. Unique features such as a heated endless pool with artificial current, a bow mounted observation basket for marine life encounters, and a large wine cellar with adjoining cigar bar further underline the exterior’s dual role — functional for adventure, elegant for entertaining. Teak decking, wide walkways and protective bulwarks complete the package, enabling guests to enjoy deck access safely in all conditions.

Classically Refined
Inside Steel, the interior design evokes the ambience of a gentlemen’s club: warm woods, rich finishes and heritage styling merge with expedition grade practicality. Accommodation is arranged for up to 12 guests across seven cabins: a full beam master suite on the main deck, two VIP cabins and four twin cabins, some with bunk beds, supporting extended family or guest travel. Crew quarters are significant, supporting up to 12 crew members, which means service, operations and guest comfort are well catered for. Practical features such as a full walk in refrigerator in the galley, advanced communication and entertainment systems, and structural support for heavy equipment reflect the ship’s expedition pedigree. Large portals and windows ensure connection with the outside, and the layout strikes a balance between guest comfort and operational functionality — catering both to refined living and to long duration stays in remote environments.
